This website is the official website of Kotohira-gu Shrine.
Kotohira-gu Shrine is one of the most popular shrines in Japan, commonly known as Konpira-san.
It has been worshiped since ancient times as "the God of the Sea" and is famous for its stone step pathway with 785 steps to the main shrine and 1,368 steps to the rear shrine.
The main shrine enshrines Omononushi-no-kami and Emperor Sutoku. There are wonderful paintings on the ceiling of it.
On certain festival days you can see the priests and shrine maidens dancing in traditional clothes.
You can also purchase a beautiful Kofuku-no-kiiroi-omamori (Yellow Charm of Happiness). The shop is open from 6AM to evening all year round.
Admission to the precincts is free.
